Microbial diversity and activity assessment in a 100-year-old lead mine

چکیده
Mining activities frequently leave a legacy of residues that remain in the area for long periods causing pollution surroundings. We studied on 100 year-old mine, behavior potentially toxic elements (PTEs) and their ecotoxicological impact activity diversity microorganisms. The PTEs contamination assessment allowed classification materials as highly (reference- contaminated-samples) very polluted (illegal spill olive mill wastes (OMW), tailings, dumps). OMW presented lowest enzymatic while tailings dumps had low dehydrogenase arylsulfatase activities. All ?-diversity indices were negatively impacted dumps. Tailings lower Chao1 PD whole tree values compared to those reference-samples. ?-diversity analysis showed similar bacterial community composition reference- contaminated-samples, significantly differing from relative abundance Gemmatimonadetes, Bacteroidetes, Verrucomicrobia was OMW, Fifty-seven operational taxonomic units selected responsible changes observed between samples. This study highlights assessing relationship physicochemical properties microbial gives clues about ongoing regulating processes can be helpful stakeholders define an appropriate management strategy.

Assessment of exposure to lead through air and biological monitoring in a lead and zinc mine
Background and aim: Lead is ubiquitous and one of the earliest metals discovered by the human. This metal is widely used in different industries due to its important physico-chemical properties like softness, high malleability, ductility, low melting point and resistance to corrosion. Lead absorbed in body with several routs and when transfer in blood is primarily in red blood cells. Human exp...
متن کاملBacterial diversity in soils around a lead and zinc mine.
Five samples of soil collected from a lead and zinc mine were used to assess the effect of combined contamination of heavy metals on soil bacterial communities using a polyphasic approach including characterization of isolates by culture method, community level catabolic profiling in BIOLOG GN microplates, and genetic community fingerprinting by denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis of 16S rD...
متن کاملMicrobial diversity and metabolic networks in acid mine drainage habitats
Acid mine drainage (AMD) emplacements are low-complexity natural systems. Low-pH conditions appear to be the main factor underlying the limited diversity of the microbial populations thriving in these environments, although temperature, ionic composition, total organic carbon, and dissolved oxygen are also considered to significantly influence their microbial life. This natural reduction in div...
متن کاملBrood care in a 100-million-year-old scale insect
Behavior of extinct organisms can be inferred only indirectly, but occasionally rare fossils document particular behaviors directly. Brood care, a remarkable behavior promoting the survival of the next generation, has evolved independently numerous times among animals including insects. However, fossil evidence of such a complex behavior is exceptionally scarce. Here, we report an ensign scale ...

testing plays a vital role in any language teaching program. it allows teachers and stakeholders, including program administrators, parents, admissions officers and prospective employers to be assured that the learners are progressing according to an accepted standard (douglas, 2010). the problems currently facing language testers have both practical and theoretical implications but the first i...
